The reasons why I finally had to give up were these:

  • import/export (contacts, calendars, ...)
  • messages:
    • sorting (e.g. by "flag" field)
    • multiple selection
    • access to remote mailboxes (e.g. PEC)
  • calendars
    • access via CalDAV
    • connection to remote calendars
