Hi,

we would like to migrate from Zimbra to Carbonio. Currently we run Zimbra on Oracle Linux. In Carbonio docs Software Requirements are Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Server Edition or RHEL 8 installation. I have no problem with Ubuntu install. My question is which OS would you recommend / prefer ?

Thanks in advance.

I agree with Anahuac - Ubuntu for me too. It's a well maintained os with lots of info if you have questions 😎ย

I've been using Centos since it was first released and then, not long afterwards, Zimbra was released and I've used that ever since. With the demise of Centos I've also tried Alma & Rocky linux and Oracle Linux and I've settled on that. Guess what I'd recommend. ๐Ÿ™‚

A root-less Podman container running RHEL 8 (ubi8-init), on top of Fedora ๐Ÿ™‚

Pretty clean migration from ZCS 8.8.15.

There's value in using an environment you're familiar & comfortable with. If you've been using a RHEL variant all these years, you'll likely have an easier time deploying a new installation on the same (type of) operating system. That way you can focus on the Carbonio specific aspects of your migration.

From personal experience, Carbonio CE has been very stable on RHEL 8. I'm looking forward to the announced CE release that supports RHEL 9, so I can give that a try.

Whatever you choose, best ofย  luck!

RHEL 9 is now in BETA support: https://docs.zextras.com/carbonio/html/install/requirements.html#rhel9-req
