Demote a Primary Volume to Secondary?

Hi All,

I'm getting ready to build a new server and plan on migrating incrementally using ZX Backup. I would like to have a smaller Primary volume and a larger Secondary volume. I understand that I can implement HSM policy to be done during the import, but I'm sure this will add to the time required to import everything to the new destination server. Since I'd like to make the move as soon as possible, I was wondering if there is a way to "demote" a Primary volume to a Secondary volume?

If so, That way I could set my large volume to be Primary, without a Secondary, and import everything to that volume. Once everything is running fine, then I'd like to put the smaller volume as the active Primary volume so it would start receiving new messages. At that point, I'd like to shift the large volume to Secondary duty. It would already have all of the "older" messages on it.

But I'm not sure if it's possible to remove the large volume from the list of Primary volumes and add it to the list of Secondary volumes. Also, what will happen to all the user's messages if/when I remove the large volume from being Primary until it becomes active as secondary?

Maybe I'm doing this all wrong. I'm open to any suggestions about the best way to migrate 400GB of mail to a new server that would hopefully end up with a 30GB Primary volume and an 800GB Secondary volume.

Thanks!
