Will it be possible to create custom mail zones so that, for example, administrators can only edit their own mailboxes?

Hi @gpsmcrsk,

No, this feature is not still available in Carbonio CE.

Video chat question. Will users from around the world be able to use video chat? Or does video chat only work within the local area network?

Hi @gpsmcrsk,

The chat capability is not yet available in Carbonio CE, however, it will be available in the near future.

Hi @dominix,

At this point, it is uncertain as the project is still in development, but the current plan is to include only local users.

Hello everyone,

The Zextras crew is delighted to present Carbonio Community Edition 23.2.0 with various improvements and new features.

Features to highlight:

Upload the entire folder onto Files

Users can effortlessly upload folders from their device onto Files, preserving the original folder structure, order, and files managed on the local device.

More control for the admins over the modules

Admin can now select which modules e.g., Files, Calendar, etc. are shown for the end-users, COS, or domain. For example, if a user only needs webmail, the admin can assign only webmail to that user.

Reply using the correct sender's address

Users no longer have to worry about choosing the correct account or alias to reply to an email. The system automatically selects the appropriate alias/account based on the source in which the email was initially opened.

Advanced filters for Files

A new filter has been implemented in Files, allowing users to search for items based on their type and owner. This filter makes it easy to search for the items based on the owner for users and quickly locate specific items such as images, videos, audio, text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and folders.

Untrusted images are hidden and not downloaded

Malicious contents often hide behind images. Providers protect users by hiding them. At Carbonio CE, we go the extra mile to protect our users. We not only hide them, but we also do not download them to the server until the user wants to see them.

Empty Address book function

Your address book has become a mess. Don’t worry! Empty your address book with a single click.

Allow admins to override password policies at the user level

By default, all user’s password policies are controlled by the COS. But you may wish to override that policy for any user if needed. Don’t forget, you are a Carbonio Admin! You can do it.

More convenient admin panel login

Login into the admin panel is more convenient now. You don't need to type the full address. Type the port address and hit enter, if auth cookies are still valid you will be redirected to the dashboard directly, but if the cookies are expired then you will be redirected to the login prompt.

and many more improvements!

Check out the full changelog to know the whole list.

How to upgrade

To upgrade your Carbonio CE, follow the simple instructions provided in the official Carbonio CE Upgrade Documentation.

We are grateful for your honest and useful feedback; it is a key factor in our success. We are open to any ideas, comments, or proposals for improving our services, and we eagerly await hearing from you.

Hello everyone,

The Zextras crew is delighted to present Carbonio Community Edition 23.3.0 with various improvements and new features.

Features to highlight:

Select All Functionality on Emails

To enhance the user experience, a static button has been added to enable users to enter the selection mode for their email list. Once in selection mode, the button will change to a "Select All" button, allowing you to easily select all the emails loaded in the client session in order to move or delete them with one click.

Customizing Features Availability

An admin can enable or disable features such as email, calendar, contacts, etc. for each user or at the COS level.

Email Quota Usage Functionalities

The email quota usage feature has been significantly improved to offer greater functionality and flexibility to administrators. It helps identify users who are using too much space and enables admins to extract quota usage data for billing purposes. Admins can now sort and filter user accounts, and export data into a CSV file for easier analysis.

Appointment Search Enhancement

Users can now search for appointments more effectively by specifying a start and end date to create a specific time frame for their search, enabling them to quickly find the exact appointment they are looking for.

Signature Management

To simplify email composition and ensure correct signatures, users now have the ability to select a standard signature from their list of signatures for personal addresses and aliases. This feature automatically sets the correct signature, avoiding the risk of sending incorrect ones.

and many more improvements!

Check out the full changelog to know the whole list.

Hello everyone,

The Zextras crew is delighted to present Carbonio Community Edition 23.4.0 with various improvements and new features.

Features to highlight:

Improved Access Control
Now Carbonio Admin can allow users to have access (such as sendOnBehalf) to other accounts/mailboxes.

Smooth operability of Admin UI
Font plays an important role to enhance your admin UI experience. Considering your servers internet availability, loading the font can cause a break in functionality and ultimately degrade your experience. But with Carbonio CE it will not be an issue anymore. From now on, the Admin UI default font (Roboto) will be loaded locally to ensure smooth operability regardless of the server’s internet connectivity.

Support Forcing Entire Domain Removal
When deleting a domain, admins will now be informed if there are other objects within the domain. This helps prevent accidental deletion and allows for the option to remove all objects within the domain. With this improvement, global admins can now confidently and successfully remove entire domains without any issues.

Distribution List Aliases
Now, admins can take advantage of a new feature that enables the addition of aliases to distribution lists for accounts. Admins can manage their Distribution list Aliases with ease through the AddDistributionListAlias and RemoveDistributionListAlias SOAP Command, based on their ACL level.

New Default Content Policy
In the latest software release, we have implemented an important improvement to the Carbonio proxy. Our objective is to secure the web resources served by the proxy by mitigating certain types of attacks, including cross-site Scripting and data injection.

New Hashing Algorithm for Passwords
A more secure hashing algorithm is used to store passwords in the LDAP providing users with peace of mind knowing that their data is safe from potential security threats. To meet these requirements, we have implemented the usage of Argon2 instead of SHA-2 (SHA-512).

Support for Brotli Compression
This improvement will significantly impact page loading time, benefiting users by reducing the time it takes for apps to load the web apps including HTML, Javascript, CSS, JSON, SVG, fonts, and other similar resources. Overall, this enhancement will help improve the user experience and ensure that Carbonio CE web apps are faster and more efficient than ever before.

Improved Management of Contacts in Shared Address Books
Users can now choose which Address Book they want to create a new contact in, eliminating the need to create it in the default Address Book and then move it to the desired location. Additionally, users can now decide whether they want to search for contacts solely in their personal Address Books or if they want to search in Shared Address Books as well.

and many more improvements!

Check out the full changelog to know the whole list.

@arman I just ran an upgrade via apt on Ubuntu 20.04. After running pending-setups, the proxy service won't start. Here is the error I'm getting.

Starting proxy...failed.
nginx start failed. reason: Template file /opt/zextras/conf/nginx/templates/nginx.conf.messaging.template does not exist

I was not having any issues prior to the upgrade.

Hi @sjj

Same as @arman: I did not encounter this problem.  That file belongs to package carbonio-proxy, so my first idea is to reinstall that package.

dpkg -S /opt/zextras/conf/nginx/templates/nginx.conf.messaging.template
carbonio-proxy: /opt/zextras/conf/nginx/templates/nginx.conf.messaging.template
