Hello everyone,

The Zextras crew is delighted to present Carbonio Community Edition 24.9.0 with various improvements and new features.

Features to highlight:

Manage Allowed and Blocked Email Addresses by Users
With this new feature, users can take control of their inbox by managing a list of allowed and blocked email addresses. A dedicated section in the settings will enable users to easily add or remove addresses from two distinct lists. The system ensures validation for valid addresses, and as changes are made, the mailbox will automatically apply them, either delivering or blocking emails from the specified addresses.

Enhanced Read Receipt Management
This improvement enhances the read receipt experience for users. Users now have the option to dismiss the read receipt popup without interacting with the backend. Additionally, for read-only accounts, the popup won’t appear at all. As a bonus, users will be able to see if a sender requested a read receipt and what their response was.

Dynamic Signature Selection While Composing Emails
Users can now change their email signature on the fly while composing an email, thanks to a new signature selector directly in the editor. This feature allows users to choose from multiple signatures without having to refresh the page, ensuring a seamless experience. Any changes made to signatures in settings are immediately reflected in the selector for use in future emails.

Flexible Email Layout and Resizable Columns
This feature enables users to customize their email viewing experience by allowing them to resize the columns separating the email list from the preview pane. Additionally, users can switch between vertical and horizontal layouts, making it easier to preview emails, especially on smaller screens. Users also have the option to hide the mail preview, providing a cleaner interface when needed. Moreover, enhanced navigation allows users to move seamlessly between messages while in full preview mode. This improvement enhances flexibility and usability for all Carbonio CE users.

Ensure Attendees are Notified for Shared Calendar Changes
This enhances the calendar notifications when a manager modifies appointments on a shared calendar. Now, when a user with manager rights makes changes to an event, such as modifying the title, date, or time, all participants will be properly notified. This ensures that shared calendar updates reach all relevant attendees, keeping everyone informed and synchronized.

Blur Backgrounds in Chats
The new background blur feature for Chats enhances user privacy and focus by allowing users to blur their background during conversations. This feature creates a cleaner, distraction-free environment while maintaining the core visual elements of the chat interface, ensuring smooth communication with added customization.

Consistent Font Settings in Message Composer
This improvement ensures that font family, size, and color preferences set by users in the mail settings or previous emails are automatically applied when composing a new email. This creates a consistent user experience across both the composer and sent emails.

Enhanced SmartLink Support for Large Attachments
This enhancement allows users to upload and convert files larger than the zimbraMTAMaxSize into SmartLinks, addressing the limitation of attaching huge files directly. When attempting to attach a large file, users will see a banner prompting them to convert the attachment into a SmartLink, bypassing the upload size restrictions. Admins will have control over the maximum file size for uploads at both domain and COS levels.

Enhanced Grid Layout for File Management
The new grid layout feature introduces a customizable and user-friendly way to view files. Users can switch to a grid view where each item displays an icon, file name, extension, last editor (if different from the owner), a share icon, and a flag icon.

Restrict Chat Creation to Enabled Users Only
This feature ensures that users can only create chats with individuals who are enabled and available in the system. When a user starts typing a name to initiate a chat, the list will display only enabled users, excluding distribution lists and groups. Additionally, the list will filter out users hidden in the Global Address List (GAL) and will only include users within the Domain Address List.

Implementation of Message Reactions
The reactions feature allows users to express their responses to messages by applying one of several predefined reactions. Each message bubble will display the selected reactions along with a counter indicating the number of users who have chosen each reaction. This enhancement provides a quick and intuitive way for users to engage with message content.

and many more improvements!

Ok guys... first of all congratulations on the new version. I do know and respect all the effort you made and keep doing.

I'm sorry to bring bad news, but upgrading it in Ubuntu 22.04 comes with a major bug: /opt/zextras/common/libexec/openldap/pw-argon2.la file is missing on carbonio-openldap package.

That prevents openldap from running, and the upgrade can't be done and the whole system breaks.

My workaround was revert it o the previous version and reconfigure... like that:

apt-get install carbonio-openldap=2.4.59-7jammy
apt-get -f install

I'm sure you will fix that in no time.

Regards

Just fixed mine, the files are there, just not with the right name, so I copied them and was able to complete upgrade

/opt/zextras/common/libexec/openldap
argon2-2.5.so.0 -> pw-argon2-2.5.so.0
argon2-2.5.so.0.1.13 -> pw-argon2-2.5.so.0.1.13
argon2.la -> pw-argon2.la
argon2.so -> pw-argon2.so

Another workaround would be to adjust the config. See: https://community.zextras.com/forum/postid/8992/

@arman Hello,
You are talking about contact groups.

Since this feature has existed on Carbonio, we have never seen a significant improvement; or, at least, a functionality that seems essential to us; that is to say, that the contacts contained in these groups are dynamic.

Indeed, when a contact changes email address, for example, their email address does not change in the group.
Also functionally, we do not know who is in this group since we only see the email address.

As it stands, this feature is unusable, which is very damaging, given that it is, for us, essential to validate its deployment in our community.

Thank you,
Loïc.

-- In french ---------------

Bonjour,

Merci,
Loïc.

I found another annoying point: It is not allowed to open mail attachments in a new tab or window. This is a big lack compared to Zimbra. Could you add such function?

@relaxibus

Hello,

At this point, it's unclear if this function will be added, but it may exist in the future. I will ensure that the product team is informed about your suggestion.
