Hi Arman

if I update to this version, how will new patches be updated in future?  Thanks

@bulletxt

Hi, we recompile the codebase, and you can easily download and use the new archive installer by us.

Best regards,

Arman

Just a thought: Why not docker it?

It could be a good idea in general but probably not here, as containerizing Zimbra requires unnecessary efforts and spending more time to achieve the same goal.

It looks to me like the Zimbra provided patch RPMs are being re-installed during the install, thus likely overriding Zextra's patches.  After downloading the latest during the upgrade the patch packages from Zimbra's repo were downloaded and installed:

zimbra-patch will be downloaded and installed (later).
zimbra-mta-patch will be downloaded and installed (later).
zimbra-proxy-patch will be downloaded and installed (later).

After upgrade zmcontrol shows P14:

[zimbra@zimbra ~]$ zmcontrol -v
Release 9.0.0_ZEXTRAS.e41af5bae02dd6e1ee964342d6efb01fdeb09927_202007113.RHEL7_64_20200710151420 RHEL7_64 FOSS edition, Patch 9.0.0_P14.

Zimbra P14 patch package is installed from the Zimbra repo:

[root@zimbra packages]# rpm -qi zimbra-patch
Name : zimbra-patch
Version : 9.0.0.1618926120.p14

Zimbra Patch

I'm not certain what files/packages you are patching, but I don't see any new/different files on my system after the upgrade.

Hi Nik,

Would you please let us know where you checked the packages? I'm referring to this

Posted by: @nik

The latest version of Zimbra 9.0.0 from Zextras, downloaded on September 2nd, has packages like 9.0.0 ..... p14-1.r8 (not p18!).

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Arman

Sorry for the mistake in my post with the command.
This is correct
yum list installed | grep zimbra |grep p14   🙂

@mik Hi,

At Zextras request I uploaded some logs. Investigation is ongoing. No obvious problems after this error.

To be continued... 🙂

I did't say about any errors.
My test server is working OK also.

Hi Arman,
OK, thanks, your explanations are complete.
How can we know if a new recompiled Zimbra is available for download from the Zextras site?

@nik

Hi Nik,

When you click on the GET THE BUILD FOR FREE button on the download page, a new web page opens, showing the package information, including the patch version and the release date.

@arman may I suggest making this information more visible though e.g. Zextras monthly newsletter or board announcement.
For me, I was not aware, that there was an newer release available again. I would also not have looked proactively on exactly that page.

Thanks for considering and all efforts by your company!

Edit: Don't mind me, it was the same release already installed. May I suggest adding the actual release (Release 9.0.0.ZEXTRAS.20210811.UBUNTU18.64 UBUNTU18_64 FOSS edition)

Since a while back it seems that updates for Zimbra FOSS are not available through apt system on ubuntu.

What has happend there and is this not working any more?

Information on this or how to fix it for the future has not gone out very good I think and it needs to be clarified.

Currently I'm running 9.0.0_GA_4022.FOSS and would like to keep my sýstem up to date as much as possible.

What is the correct way to do this now adays for Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS ? And will there be a working version/upgrade for any later versions ov ubuntu, for example 20.04 LTS?

Regards

Daniel

Hi @daz,

I think your best bet is to create your build based on the Zimbra repository and latest patches if that's a possibility. Alternatively, I suggest reading this thread thoroughly to find more information and ultimately go with Zextras build of Zimbra 9, which gets regular updates. You can find it here on this web page:

https://www.zextras.com/zextras-build-based-on-zimbra-official-repository/

I hope it helps.

Hi

I alreayd run the zextras build of Zimbra from when 9.0 came out so I'm good there, but for a whilke now the repo for ubuntu does not update or have any updates in it.

What is the update procedure for my GA version to the latest version and how do I get the patches I need to be up to date. I tried looking at the link in this thread and I only find the first install files to download, not the patches.

Regards

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Patches are already included in the build, you don't need to install them manually, you only need to run the installer of Zimbra 9. For future patches, you can easily download the new build from the same link and install it since the patches are included.

Read this for more information:

https://community.zextras.com/how-we-solved-the-issue-of-updating-zimbra-9/

To see the patch versions included in the build, click on theGET THE BUILD FOR FREEbutton on the download page, a new web page opens, showing the package information, including the patch version and the release date, alternatively, you can open the page directly from this link:

https://www.zextras.com/thankyou-zextras-build-zimbra/

Best regards,

Arman

Hi

Thanks for the clear answer.

Can I run the latest patch directly or do I need to go one at a time or in a special order?

Also I have clicked on the dowload link and provided myh email adress.. I do not get a link from where I can download the install package.

Regards

Daniel
