In summary, this post has shown the following so far:

Ubuntu 24.04 with Carbonio 25.12:
- Installation goes well, but Webmail and AdminWeb are inaccessible; the message "Something went wrong" appears.

- Because of this, I can't test anything else.

Ubuntu 22.04 with Carbonio 25.12:
- Installation goes well, and access to Webmail and AdminWeb is also OK.

- I tested changes to MTA/CoS/etc. configurations and everything is OK.

- At the moment, it seems the best thing to do is use Ubuntu 22.04 because it's functional.

NOTE: This problem has been seen and reported by other users in this post.

Don’t forget that at least me is also experiencing these issues running on a RHEL 8 OS, so whatever it is isn’t just isolated to Ubuntu

Hi!

I'm sorry, I really missed the Red Hat issue.

That's why I asked @Sharif him to look at the whole post because there's a lot of information there. I believe he's seen it from the beginning (I want to believe that, but...). Anyway, unfortunately, the forum is increasingly demonstrating Carbonio's support problems (I know I use the free version), but even so, months of problems is very frustrating....

Hey

I too am using the free version, I don’t mind the reduced support that comes with the free community model, but this is clearly a bug in their software somewhere that likely only Carbonio are going to be able to fix.

In my opinion this problem was introduced in the 25.9 release as I wasn’t getting the problems logging in to the Webmail or the Admin panel on any of the releases prior to 25.9

As I have mentioned previously, if I copy the “admin & “web” folders from a 25.6 installation over to an upgraded 25.12 installation, it fixes the problem. But this really isn’t ideal & certainly isn’t a recommended solution, but for the time being it does work.

Does this give Carbonio / Zextras any clue towards fixing the problem I wonder? Or to put it another way, can they offer an explanation to why this gets things working again?

hi!

I fully agree regarding the issue of support for the free version being community/forum/etc., and I understand that our "questions" wouldn't be different if there were paid support, considering it's the same product (I believe), but with different feature releases like Zimbra. Anyway, I don't think we're asking for too much or anything, but just to clarify and avoid anyone using this issue to say we're wrong...

Yes, the serious problems started in version 25.9. Before that, everything worked very well and without problems, but with 25.9 everything went wrong. It took almost 90 days to resolve the problems of version 25.9 (which was unusable), and as we saw for Ubuntu 24.04/Red Hat 8, they're still not okay, but at least now with Ubuntu 22.04 it seems we have an option.

I requested months ago the possibility of installing older versions (as we do with Zimbra), but they don't seem interested because nothing has been done. Having to install a version that clearly has serious problems and not allowing the use of a functional previous version is, to me, a serious business management error.

However, in addition to the Carbonio problems, the forum here further demonstrates the project's fragility. Only one support member interacts, and even then, sometimes it takes days for an update on the current problems. Based on the others, I predict it will take days/weeks/months for them to resolve the issues.

@carloscunha

I would be really happy to help and other users on this.

I have installed Carbonio CE 25.12.0 many times so far on Ubuntu 24.04LTS. And as I said on another post that carbonio-catalog.service is responsible for the login page. After restarting this service or the server everything works normally. And after a fresh installation, when you get "Something went wrong... " if you inspect the browser page you would find that it is related to catalog.

I would be very happy to help you on this. And I can assure you that it is not a service blocker.

Let me know if you have any idea on how can we sort this out.

Thanks

I'm sorry, but it seems you haven't read anything that's been said. Not only me, but other users with the same problem, in another OS version, have already mentioned clean installations, restarts, and nothing solves it, and your answer is vague about the same thing.

There's a lot of information and it's simply ignored.

But as I said in the other post, I'll have minimal interaction on the forum. Wanting to help and getting delayed responses, or vague ones, or simply responses that don't match the reports, seems like the problems only occur with users; with the developers, everything is fine...

This is not helping neither of us.

Talking like this is pointless. I have read all the posts again and again. And I did the installation countless times. I asked again and again that when you do not get the page try to inspect the browser page using Developers Tools. It would give you some useful insights.

But as I said it is pointless now.

Good Luck.

I see they have you downgraded in this forum!

My question to you: what is it that you need from Carbonio CE that Maldua Zimbra does not?

Zimbra for one does work without any hassle.

I have given up on Carbonio CE as it is not worth my time.

Greetings. It works very well for me with Ubuntu 24.04 and CE 25.12. To solve this problem, use these commands:

sudo systemctl list-units carbonio*
chown zextras:zextras /opt/zextras/data/tmp/nginx/client
apt install carbonio-catalog
pending-setups -a
systemctl restart carbonio-directory-server.target
systemctl restart carbonio-appserver.target
systemctl restart carbonio-proxy.target
systemctl restart carbonio-mta.target
Reboot

For me, the working way to fix this problem turned out to be this:

apt update
apt upgrade -y
apt install carbonio-ce -y
pending-setups -a
su - zextras
zmcontrol restart

We had the same problem when upgrading Carbonio-CE 25.6.0 to 25.12.0 - all packages upgraded without major issues, pending setups -a run, modules restarted via zmcontrol and even the entire server rebooted. Webmail works just fine, e-mails are sent and received, just :6071 ends with "Something went wrong".

I've wasted invested some time into investigation so I can share my suspisions - I believe problem is related to the switch from carbonio-admin-ui to carbonio-admin-console-ui that happened somewhere between 25.6.0 and 25.12.0. Ubuntu package system handles the package conflicts pretty well and allows to only one of those to be installed, HOWEVER:
the fact that problem can be relieved by switching the entire admin/ contents with the ones from older Carbonio installation makes me believe that it is the contents of /opt/zextras/admin/iris/components.json that are incorrectly migrated to serve carbonio-admin-console-ui and a migration procedure to adjust the contents of this file to match the installed packages should be provided.

In fact, there are quite a few problems in any version above and in 25.9. Servers with previous versions run very well, and I don't intend to update, as it's been 6 months of the same problems and new ones appearing in each new version.

@carloscunha

I would suggest you to apply the hotfix 26.3.1 that fixes the admin UI issues or may be a new installation to check the current status.
