Hello,
Thank you for sharing.
We are in a similar situation on our side. We have not upgraded our production environments yet specifically because of this issue.
The fact that some users are already rolling back confirms that the impact is significant and that the current state is not yet stable for production.
We are currently holding on updates and waiting for a confirmed and stable fix before proceeding.
Any update from the team would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bonjour,
Merci
I know Sharif was saying there wasn't a defined fix window for this, although I can see a change was pushed into the dev branch for mailbox a day or so ago. With any luck it shouldn't be too much longer before it hits release
Hello,
Thanks for the mention.
Just to share our current status and findings:
- Issue still present after upgrade to 26.3.0
- iPhone / Apple Mail connects successfully (IMAP OK)
- Authentication and sending work fine
- However, mailbox appears empty or inconsistent
- Backend logs show repeated errors like:
StartOutOfBoundsException during IMAP FETCH requests
We also confirm that:
- the issue affects multiple mailboxes, not a single account
- behavior can vary between devices
- some partial improvements may appear after recent updates, but the problem is not fully resolved
At this stage, we consider the fix incomplete and are holding production upgrades until a stable hotfix is confirmed.
Any update or ETA from the Carbonio team would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bonjour,
Merci
I understand that this issue is being worked on, but could you indicate what the current status is?
thanks.
Hello,
We would also appreciate an update on the current status.
The issue is still ongoing on our side and continues to impact iPhone users in production environments.
At this stage, even a rough ETA or confirmation of progress would really help us plan next steps (wait, apply updates, or consider fallback options).
Thanks for your support.
Bonjour,
I just did an update on my ubuntu 22.04 server and it looks like if the problem is solved now.

Hello,
Thanks for the mention.
Just to confirm from our side: the issue is still ongoing and not fully resolved.
Even after recent updates:
- iPhone / Apple Mail behavior remains inconsistent
- some clients may appear to sync, but others still fail or show empty mailboxes
- backend logs still show repeated IMAP errors (e.g. StartOutOfBoundsException)
We also confirm that:
- multiple mailboxes are affected
- this is not linked to a specific account or device
- behavior can vary between iOS clients
At this stage, we still consider the fix incomplete and are waiting for a stable hotfix before upgrading production environments.
Any update or confirmation from the Carbonio team would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bonjour,
Merci
@support-greenpositive I'm not seeing any strange behavior anymore since the recent update packages. That doesn't have to mean anything, though, these are just seven accounts with iDevices, so not really a large sample.
Just one thing: Apple Mail for iOS sometimes behaves strangely after an update of the IMAP server. What I've seen is that Apple Mail then doesn't show any updates to mailboxes even when the user pulls down to trigger a reload. No error is shown if I recall correctly, definitely no update of the mailbox is shown. The only remedy is to kill Apple Mail by swiping it out of the list of running apps. Afterwards, it works.
I've seen this at least twice on my own device after I updated Carbonio, and one of my users had it once, too, but none of the others, so it seems to be more or less erratic. Maybe some of your users are seeing something similar?
But, of course, it may well be that your users are seeing problems with further Carbonio bugs that coincidentally don't hit my users.
Hello,
We tested the latest updates on our side.
For our iPhone client, there is a clear functional improvement:
- the mailbox downloaded again correctly
- sending works
- receiving works
So for us, the original Apple Mail / iPhone issue now appears resolved from a user perspective.
However, we still observed some backend IMAP warnings in mailbox.log during FETCH operations, including StartOutOfBoundsException.
So at this stage, the update seems to fix the main user-facing issue, even if some backend log warnings may still remain.
We will continue monitoring.
Thanks
Bonjour,
Merci
Has there actually been a new update or patch published to 26.3.0 since it's initial release - I've not noticed one?
I just update apt and saw lots of files to install/upgrade. So I was under the impression that there must be an update then.
So I did a complete backup of my server, and started doing the normal update routine described in https://docs.zextras.com/carbonio-ce/html/upgrade/upgrade.html
This fixed my IMAP/IOS problem.
Strange thing is that in the admin UI I still see its version 26.3.0 but the problem is solved.
I then als upgraded from ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04 and that worked well also.
@sharif can you give us an update about this ?
Actually, you're quite right! It seems like the carbonio-mailbox-jar package I'm seeing on my apt list now is 4.25.2-1 instead of 4.25.1-1.
I'll give that a run later on my system and see how it lands
Hello,
We can confirm the same behavior on our side.
After running apt update / apt upgrade, several Carbonio packages were updated, including carbonio-mailbox-jar (now 4.25.2-1).
Even though the system still reports version 26.3.0, the IMAP issue with iPhone is now resolved:
- mailbox sync works correctly
- send/receive works normally
So it looks like a silent fix has been deployed via package updates rather than a new version.
We also recommend taking a snapshot/backup before applying updates, as the fix is not yet officially documented.
Thanks
Bonjour,
Merci
@All
A new hotfix has been released few days back, specially keeping in mind the IOS imap issue. To confirm the version, I would request you to check from the CLI:
root@mail:~# su - zextras -c "zmcontrol -v" Carbonio Release 26.3.2 root@mail:~# oot@mail:~# dpkg -l carbonio-appserver-service Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Architecture Description +++-==========================-=============-============-========================> ii carbonio-appserver-service 4.25.2-1noble amd64 Carbonio Mailbox Service lines 1-6/6 (END)
About the Admin UI version, it has been a long ongoing discussion among our teams. We are currently evaluating the challenges we are facing to align the Admin UI version with the CLI version.
I would update you all if I have any update on it.
Thanks for your understading.
