Hi!
I have a Zimbra Collaboration (v.9) instance I would like to migrate to Carbonio CE.
Especially, I would like to know if the Zimbra Connect content can be migrated since I believe it is/was a Zextras (Talk?) based solution.
How complete a migration is possible to achieve (including Connect, Drive, Docs, etc.)?
Any information or experiences regarding these are very much appreciated, thanks! 🤗
@pakezonite
Thanks for the question. A few quick clarifications would be more useful for us:
1. Zimbra edition (Network or Open Source) and whether Zextras Suite is installed on top, including its version.
2. Whether Connect, Drive, and Docs are actually in use today, or just available.
Thanks for the quick reply!
1. It's Zimbra Collaboration suite Nertwork edition which is bundled with the Zextras based (I think) components like Connect (~ Zextras Talk), etc.
2. It's not in use but has been decomissioned
Since Zimbra (Synacor) has decided to go the Zulip way regarding Chat it would be nice to have an optional way to migrate and maintain the content that used to be in Connect (Chat / Video) to Carbonio CE if it is compatible. But I don't know if it's possible, hence the question.
@pakezonite
Thanks for the detail.
What migrates into Carbonio Community Edition (CE) through the documented procedure are:
- Domains, accounts, distribution lists, aliases, classes of service(LDAP dump via slapadd)
- Mail (via imapsync)
- Calendars (ICS export and import)
- Contacts (CSV export and import)
- Server-side filters, signatures, identities (carried inside the LDAP dump and account exports)
What does not have a migration path into Carbonio CE, and would have to be either written off or have backup manually:
- Chats, Files, Docs in Carbonio CE is entirely different product than Suite. Therefore, as of now migrating any previous history into these are not feasible. At best, you could do is take backup of the contents from these modules.
- Migration to Carbonio CE:
( https://docs.zextras.com/carbonio-ce/html/admincli/migration.html)
Carbonio CE is the right call if you're consciously moving on from those modules, but if your user base and requirements ask for advanced use of these modules then why don't you consider Carbonio?
Regards,
Thanks for the reply.
I was under the impression that Zimbra Collaboration (Network Edition) v.9 used basically the Zextras components under the hood for Chat & Video (Connect) and Docs and that those might be somwhat similar to what's implemented in Carbonio CE and thus there would be a chance (similar DBs, etc.) of migrating also their data over to Carbonio CE -maybe I was wrong...?
Is there any difference in this sense between Carbonio CE and Carbonio or are they both entirely different than Zimbra Collaboration suite Nertwork edition (v.9)? No migration path exists for these components?
