Hi everyone,
I wanted to raise what I think is a significant usability issue for enterprise deployments: the lack of a separate/popup compose window.
Currently, composing a new email opens as an integrated panel within the same webmail window. For casual use this might be acceptable, but in a real business workflow it becomes a serious limitation. A typical office user needs to:
- consult an existing email while composing a reply to another
- keep multiple draft windows open simultaneously
- reference inbox content without losing the compose context
This is not a minor convenience — it directly impacts daily productivity for anyone writing a high volume of emails.
What makes this particularly hard to understand is that Zimbra, from which Carbonio inherits its architecture and user base, had a proper detached popup compose window for years. We are talking about functionality that already existed in the predecessor product and has been actively removed.
For companies evaluating Carbonio as an alternative to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, this is a real dealbreaker. The privacy-first, self-hosted value proposition is strong — but if the end user experience is objectively worse than the competition on basic workflow features, IT managers will simply choose the more expensive option to avoid complaints from their users.
I'd love to know if this is already on the roadmap, or if there is any workaround at the admin/COS level that I may have missed.
Thanks
