@sharif some more input on why not Carbonio.
- Carbonio Community Edition (FOSS for small organizations with basic needs)
- I and many others consider ActiveSync / native mobile a basic need. Most of us don't only use a desktop nowadays. 🙂
- Carbonio (Zextras Suite integrated + other proprietary components)
- I've tried to reached out to a few companies and even sent a request to buy a small number of licenses, but no one ever gets back to me.
So even if I wanted to, I can't find something to replace Zimbra OSS + Zextras Suite....
@arman, any further updates on the upgrade issues listed here?
@brendan

I will do my best to discuss this with my colleagues to explore a feasible solution. However, I encourage you to keep an open mind, as there are times when solutions exist but may not be financially viable due to various factors. Additionally, we may need to escalate this to our relevant department, such as Sales, for further evaluation.

@sharif You need to keep your announcements up to date then. I found out like 2 days ago that my Zextras build had stopped updating, except what it got from the Zimbra repositories. I then tried to update to this newer version and yeah, it broke the mailboxd and things.
I had carbonio on my list just wanted to switch multiple sites at once and needed confirmation from a few people that I can do it. Now turns out... you announced the FOSS build, then another build (basically), which we again download via the email download link (surely no dependency on email there, right). One where we need to bump back the database version, which is stated in a few places and in a few not. and then brute-force install over it, and then after that, err, it's broken now and also it's not on a similar version and there's no patch for certain CVEs if the OSS isn't directly affected.
In those 10+ interactions for doing the version hops we never get informed that the Zimbra9 maintenance has become almost impossible over time, none of the original posts point to an updated information, nor does the download link email, nor does the installer.
Why not really just put an honest info there? Users do know it's made complicated by another party than you.
Just tell people at the same level of prominence that you for all cases now recommend making the move since Z9 OSS has become too fragile and you aren't able to dedicate the necessary ressources. Don't mislead people, also not by just letting things fall stale.
And as far as I could skim over the other posts, please fix your sales process. There's no hurt in a paypal shop for the 10-seat home and very small businesses. We most of the time don't need any support, but would love to not be legally exposed or an actual liability to others just because we believe(d) in opensource. Running into this trap is gonna cost people more in time than paying a bit to simply have a working apt/yum repo with working updates and say, an announcement mail.
And you'd end up with 10000s of $ per month doing nothing besides - well - not making it hard for people to:
- be safe
- give you their money
- support an OSS project and help it scale
So yeah, you need to talk with your sales team _for sure_ because if people aren't able to buy from you, that ain't good!

Sorry for the long delay, I have emailed you today with the information requested.
I am open to discus options and solutions, but currently I have none.
I've been a Zextra's customer since 2016, resubscribing every year.
I've detailed the situation in a previous reply, but it feels a bit horrible as a long-term customer to now be left high and dry with no solution.
Hi,
We appreciate your support. And I apologize about the delay. Let me take a look at your email and I will let you know the update.🙏

With Zimbra 9 reaching end-of-life on June 30, 2025, there’s been renewed energy around sustaining Zimbra FOSS deployments. Active community projects now support patched repositories under the pimbra model—making it viable to run updated Zimbra-based systems well beyond the EOL date.
While Carbonio targets larger organizations, there remains a significant niche of smaller deployments that still rely on Zimbra FOSS and the Zextra suite for functionality. These groups often lack a migration path and would benefit from continued access to the Zextras Suite—perhaps in a supported, unsupported, or tiered licensing model.
Importantly, many of these deployments could grow into Carbonio customers as their needs evolve—or as Carbonio itself expands to accommodate smaller environments. Continued engagement with the Zimbra FOSS ecosystem could serve as a long-term bridge to future adoption of your flagship offerings.
Would Zextras consider reopening Suite access for community-maintained Zimbra builds?
